On Truth and Error

It is perhaps the history of the errors of mankind, all things considered, that is more valuable and interesting than that of their discoveries. Post-Election Musical Analysis

This just in: McCain's concession postlude was the soundtrack from Crimson Tide, a movie about an old white guy submarine captain, and the upstart young, black XO who have to deal with Russia attacking their sub. The two come to a "gentleman's reconciliation" by the end of the film. Obama's choice was the soundtrack from "Remember the Titans," a movie about racial tensions in 1970s Virginia through the lens of football. Obama also used John William's score from The Patriot, a Mel Gibson movie about the Revolutionary War and a widower with 7 kids.

Democrats: For a better musical message (that a black guy can unite us, but only if we show up at 7:29am wearing suit and tie) +20pts. For including Mel Gibson and questionable references to guerrilla tactics in South Carolina, -10pts.
Net gain: 10pts (and, you know, the presidency, the house, and the senate).

Republicans: For an almost hilarious topical reference about black vs. white and experience vs. inexperience, and including an Ohio-class nuclear submarine, +10pts, For losing the election by a lot, -20pts.
Net gain: -10pts.

Denzel Washington: For reaching across the aisle, +5,000.

Mel Gibson: For crimes against humanity, -1,000,000.

Speech #2: That One!

All I could think was, SNL better get a half-way decent Obama impression going FAST. And, you know, all that inspiration stuff, too. Also, his family is full of beautiful ladies! Sinden, I am expecting some discussion of the candidates' post-speech musical choices. That is right up your proverbial alley!

President-Elect Obama is. Use the force you must.

Currently, all the facebook status updates I can see on one page are variations on "I'm so proud," "I'm so happy," "Yay, Obama," or "Yes we can." Except for: "X thinks the CNN holograms are bizarre: 'Help me Anderson Cooper, you're my only hope!'" and "X kind of wants the CNN hologram people to talk like Yoda." Also, "X is listening to Cole Porter." Oh well, that last one isn't in America anyway.

Speech #1: The Other One

Just wanted to say that I am extremely proud of America. And I am proud of John McCain, in the end. That was a good speech, and it must have been terribly difficult to give. He really missed an opportunity to chastise the crowd for booing their new president, but I can understand that in this context one can only be so generous. I hope he can go back to being a decent politician again, since, at least to me, he has just proved that he is still a decent man.
